Field of Study: Clinical training in Cancer Research, Cardiology, Gynecology, Medicine, Dentistry, Orthopedics, Neurology and ENT.

Level: Graduate/Postgraduate

Eligibility: Applicants must be Indian nationals. The candidates should not be more than 40 years of age as on 11.10.2013. Scholarships are offered to MBBS, BDS, MS, MD degree holders only who have qualified as MBBS and BDS between 1st October, 2004 and 30th September, 2009. The candidates must have completed tertiary education in English Medium. One should hold or able to produce the certificate of Bachelor’s Degree by October, 2014 in the subject field concerned securing 65% or above marks. Candidates should give one page academic justification for pursuing the course in U.K.

Candidates whose native language is not English will be required to provide evidence that they have sufficient competence in English to practice Medicine or Dentistry in the United Kingdom. Nominated candidates will be required to take the IELTS. An IELTS test will only be considered valid if taken after 1st October 2013 and before 6th March 2014. All international medical graduates, including those on Commonwealth Scholarships and Fellowships, who apply for registration with the GMC will be required to score 7.0 or above in every band of the academic IELTS test.

Applicants whose programme requires them to practice clinically, or to work in a laboratory department reporting on samples from patients, can be considered only if they are eligible for registration with the General Medical Council or the General Dental Council. Duration: Six months of clinical training

Value: Return airfare (economy class), approved tuition and examination fees, personal maintenance allowance at the rate of £917 per month (£1,134 per month for those studying at institutions in the London Metropolitan area).

Commonwealth Scholarships – 2014

The Commonwealth Scholarships and Fellowships Programme offers scholarships and fellowships to students of Commonwealth countries who can make a significant contribution to their home country after the completion of a higher education programme in the UK.

Commonwealth Scholarships for India is managed jointly by the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU, UK), the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD),  the Government of India and the British Council.

Duration of scholarships:  Awards are usually between 1 – 3 years. One-year for Master’s, six-months for Clinical Training and three-years for Ph.D.

Value: Economy return international travel, tuition fee, maintenance and other allowances.

Eligibility for scholarships: Applicants should be Indian citizens residing in India. Applicants should  have completed tertiary education in English medium, hold a doctorate or other postgraduate qualifications accepted as sufficient for the applicant’s career. Candidates should    have been awarded doctorate no less than five and no more than ten years from the date of taking up the study. Should  have at least two-years experience as a staff member of a university or similar institution in the applicants’ home country. Candidates should not be aged more than 40 at the time of applying. Some scholarship programmes may require IELTS.

Selection procedure for scholarships: The preliminary selection is through a process of shortlisting of applications, followed by personal interviews in New Delhi. This is done by the Department of Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD),  Government of India.
